I’m Matthias Falland, Microsoft Data Platform MVP (since 2018), Cloud Architect, and Trusted Advisor with deep expertise in the Microsoft Data Stack, particularly in Microsoft Fabric. My focus lies in the architecture, governance, and security of modern data solutions, always emphasizing precise terminology and exact language. Recognizing and conveying the subtle connections “between the lines” is as important to me as technical excellence.
Background#
With 20 years of Microsoft Data Platform experience (MCT since 2009, 75 passed Microsoft exams, 37 active certifications), I’ve witnessed and implemented the evolution from SQL Server 2005 to Microsoft Fabric.
My unusual path includes:
- Theology studies – shaping my questions about meaning and responsibility
- Journalism (including Bild newspaper, ages 16-21) – teaching me to explain complex topics simply
- 8 years as Waldorf teacher – why I draw live instead of using PowerPoint slides
My Philosophy#
My work is characterized by a philosophical approach to Artificial Intelligence: I understand AI not only as a tool but also as a mirror of ourselves and as a cultural phenomenon. It invites us to reflect on what it means to be human, on responsibility, and transformation. At international conferences, I therefore represent not only technical architecture topics but also engage with questions of meaning and the societal role of AI.

Personal#
I’m 48 years old, live near Basel in Switzerland, and am part of a blended family. When I’m not working with data and AI, I enjoy reflecting on the philosophical implications of technology on our society.
